The greatest gift and sacrifice of all is the blood of Jesus that was shed on the cross for ALL the sins of the world. While reading in Hebrews recently, I was humbled by the reminder of the new covenant we have in Christ, His sacrifice on the cross, and the true meaning of being “washed in the blood.”
To be washed is to be cleansed, sanctified, purified, etc. Hebrews 9:22 says, “And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. In order for God to forgive the sins of the world, a blood sacrifice had to be made. Jesus became that sacrifice for us, once and for all. Hallelujah!
I found this interesting definition in the Webster’s dictionary:
Blood is the fluid that circulates in the heart, arteries, capillaries, and veins of a vertebrate animal carrying nourishment and oxygen to and bringing away waste products from all parts of the body.
If we are “washed by the blood of Jesus”, His sacrifice not only gave us hope for salvation, forgiveness of sins, and eternal life in heaven, but also nourishment and oxygen. The blood of Jesus revived us, and provided every breath that exists in our lungs. It is incredible to understand that being “washed in His blood” means that we are fully nourished and given all things needed to live. Without the blood, our life would not be able to reach its full potential. Also, the blood of Jesus removed all the waste from our life, making us a new creation in Him. It cleansed EVERY part of our body, removing everything that works against us in a negative way.
Lord, thank you for the precious blood of Jesus! We can not do anything to gain or achieve this gift, for it was given as a sacrifice. We must simply receive it, thank God for it, and believe in the power of the blood of Jesus that cleanses ALL and brings life to ALL!
